Being two / acting two

At the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans, Berry proved that even busy lobbies are fair game when you're two and you need to make a point. Cold marble floor? No worries – the message is the same.

Yes, that's her... the crumpled bit of pink at the bottom of the photo above.

And here's a close-up – you know, in case there's any doubt that she really meant it.

I almost wish we could say Berry was the worst-behaved child in the hotel that weekend, but sadly – no. We (and Kirk and Pauline) were deeply unlucky to be given rooms in the same wing as a completely appalling University of Alabama fraternity in town for a social... so at 2am the halls were filled with scrawny shirtless 18-year-olds running around with buckets of ice, drunkenly bellowing at locked doors and fighting; girls carrying their shoes and crying; and exasperated security guards trying to herd them all away.

At 3am we were treated to some kid, completely smashed, pounding on the door next to ours: "Evaaaaaan! Evan open the f------ door! Evan you m------------! Evaaaaaaan! Open! [BANG] The! [BANG] Door! [BANG] Evan you d-------, this is the lowest thing you've ever [BANG] done! Evaaaaaaaaaan!"

And as I dialled security again, I couldn't help thinking: at least when Berry threw a tantrum, she was acting her age.

  1. tantrums aren't fun but she looks so adorably dramatic.

Very well put! Hope you enjoyed your trip aside from all that!

  3. If I were Evan, I wouldn't have let him in either. At least he wasn't knocking on your door by mistake!

  4. That first photo is priceless, especially combined with the frat story!

  5. I wish I could lay on the floor in a public place. Seems very free-spirited. Unfortunately my adult brain is waaaaaaay too concerned with all the gross stuff that's possibly on the floor.

  6. Ha! I think, in honor of Berry, that I will throw myself on the floor atleast once today. Isn't that what all 36 year olds do?

  7. Sadly for many college kids that is them acting their age. Stupid is pretty standard for college these days.

I live in Boston one huge college town so I long for summer when they GO AWAY.

  8. *laughs* Go figure! I'm guessing Berry is much cuter than the college kids, too. ;)

  9. Thanks all – the trip worked out because we all complained bitterly and got moved to the executive club level for the second night. Better!

Shelley, if Evan's "friend" had knocked on our door he would have been confronted by Angry Pregnant Girl. Biiiig mistake!

(Cicada, I think the my-parents-hate-germs element is part of the great impact of Berry's floor flingings. Sadly.)

That said – I, too, find myself having many days where I've love to hurl myself down on the tiles in dramatic fashion. I missed my chance about 30 years ago. Sigh.

  10. very dramatic. I know how yu feel. Children can throw the most royal of fits where and when you dont want them too. But at least you got a great picture out of it to blackmail her with when she is 16!

  15. OMG that first pic made me laugh out loud! Bless her little heart. :)

And I love that you obviously didn't freak out and give in to whatever she was upset about - you just went ahead and took a picture to use as evidence someday when she's about 14. :)

  16. Heh... she actually got a time-out, sitting in a corner near a potted plant (with her daddy a watchful 3 feet away). That pretty much resolved it.

I only wish we could've issued time-outs for the Alabama frat kids....

  17. That's brilliant -- the two year old, not the frat boys. I've got one just like her; she's five now, and no less dramatic with the additional three year's life experience, bless her little heart.
